It is a Sad Day

...when a male teacher can make perverted, disgusting and inappropriate comments to female students and get away with it. It literally makes me sick to my stomach that it is so common that some of these girls don't even think it is a big deal! They shrug it off like "yeah, he's a creep...we're used to it."

What makes my stomach churn even more is that such a man would have an entourage of so called "respectable" teachers supporting him (read: their union). They actually defend him because he's such a "nice guy." Right. Every day on the news there is an interview with the shocked friends and neighbors of some murderer. They would have never believed that this "nice guy" would be capable of such a crime. Oh, but his colleagues and family have never seen any behavior of the sort, so the accusations must be false (like he would stupid enough to say these things in front of them).

The fact that several girls weren't brave enough to come forward publicly doesn't change the truth. Their parents know, but just want it to "go away." This teacher's flirtatious behavior is a widely known fact among students, but the one girl who had the courage to stand up publicly against this pervert was called a liar by the teachers she grew up respecting. Even though it was scary, she was taught to stand up for what is right. She has nieces that will be raised in the same school system, and wanted to protect them.

Despite the outcome, I am so proud of her courage. It breaks my heart that she was let down so very much by these people she thought she could trust…people she admired. What a great injustice.
