"Man Land"
We recently had cable installed in our basement just in time for racing season and March Madness. This area of the house is now jokingly refered to as "man land," where Mike can get away and…I don’t know…be manly I guess. There is a work table with lots of tools and wood and stuff, and a weight bench (complete with massive ugly weights). This corner of the basement is also cluttered with loads of sports junk...er "collectibles.” Hey, I'm not complaining…before we got married it was all sitting out in his living room. Only a bachelor would hang an enormous orange Tennessee flag above the couch and think it was cool. But that was just the beginning. How could I forget the stacks of miniature football helmets that served as decoration on the entertainment center? And the huge racing plaques (yes, people really buy those) hanging on the walls. My personal favorite were the baseball bobble heads proudly displayed on shelves *still in their original packaging* because “they are more valuable this way.” Don’t even get me started on all of the replica NASCARs and John Deere Tractors!
Man land provides a nice place for all of these precious “collectibles” to be displayed where real people don’t have to see them. Let’s face it, orange Tennessee flags and NASCAR plaques don’t exactly “go” with the décor of my house.
